Harrow’s Leap Horsemanship is a small equine establishment, offering professional instruction and experiences based on extensive knowledge and practice.

Whether it’s riding, showing, moving towards horse ownership, or simply being connected to with these amazing animals, Harrow’s Leap Horsemanship is here for you.

The People

The teaching and learning environment created by Harow’s Leap Horsemanship exists because of the way that we see the equine world.

Briar Jansons

Briar Jansons is the founding keystone of Harrow’s Leap Horsemanship. She has over four decades of equine experience, including years of training from some of the top names in the Hunter/Jumper world, experience across three countries on two continents, and a continued thirst for learning what is best for both human and horse.

She also brings a professional background in teaching and curriculum development, meaning that each experience can be customized to the student’s optimal learning needs. She is well-known for her good humour and positive energy, and simply loves connecting people with horses.

Aaron Zimmer

Briar’s husband Aaron is also a skilled horseman, and acts as the farrier for the animals of Harrow’s Leap Horsemanship. He has graduate experience in connecting communities to their green and built environments, so sharing his joy of riding and of animal husbandry is just one part of his effort to make an impact in Patrick County, our home.

He brings his creativity, caring, and excellence at human connection to Harrow’s Leap Horsemanship. Plus, he does the heavy lifting!

The Method

Harrow’s leap Horsemanship has developed its own riding and horsemanship method over decades of practice.

It is based in traditional hunter/jumper roots and core competencies, and incorporates disciplines and systems from other styles. What emerges is a comprehensive, customizable, overall horsemanship ability that sets up new riders with a toolkit that can take them wherever they want to go in the horse world.

We prioritize horse and rider health in way that is teachable and fun. We start on the ground, even remotely, learning about horse and human interactions. From there, we leap in whatever direction the client wants to go!

The Facility

Harrow’s Leap Horsemanship has its home at Goblintown Farm, a rural property in Patrick County, VA. The farm is geared towards encouraging native fauna and flora, renewing the land that has been affected by human intervention, and creating a loving place for family. Trails run through the 44 acre space, and there are many beautiful sites for photography, meditation, and connecting with nature.
